Bright, zesty, and undeniably fresh. This classic Mexican dish is the perfect way to enjoy high-quality raw shrimp during a warm weekend.
Ingredients
1 lb Jumbo Shrimp (peeled, deveined, and butterfly-cut)
1 cup Fresh Lime Juice (approx. 8–10 limes)
½ cup Fresh Cilantro
1-2 Serrano Peppers (depending on your heat preference)
1 Garlic clove
½ English Cucumber (thinly sliced into half-moons)
½ Red Onion (thinly sliced into julienne)
1 Large Avocado (sliced)
Sea Salt & Black Pepper to taste
Tostadas for serving
Instructions
1. Prep the Shrimp
Start with the freshest catch from Three Brothers Seafood. Ensure the shrimp are butterfly-cut (sliced down the back without cutting all the way through). Lay them flat on a wide, chilled plate and season lightly with sea salt and black pepper.
2. Blend the "Aguachile" Sauce
In a blender, combine the fresh lime juice, cilantro, serrano peppers, and the garlic clove. Blend until the sauce is a vibrant, smooth green.
3. The "Quick Cure"
Pour the green sauce evenly over the shrimp, making sure every piece is submerged. Let it sit for 5 to 8 minutes. In an authentic Aguachile, the lime juice "cooks" the shrimp quickly, so you want to serve it while the shrimp is still tender and translucent.
4. Assemble & Garnish
Layer the sliced cucumbers and red onions over the shrimp. The crunch of the cucumber and the bite of the onion perfectly balance the spicy lime sauce. Top with fresh avocado slices to add a creamy finish.
5. Serve Immediately
Aguachile is best enjoyed the moment it's ready. Serve with crispy corn tostadas and a cold beverage.
